Is a 6.0 Powerstroke Cold Air Intake Worth It?

If you’re considering upgrading your truck with a cold air intake, you might be wondering if it’s worth the investment—especially if you have a 6.0 powerstroke. While there are many benefits to installing a cold air intake on your truck, there are also some potential downsides to consider. In this blog post, we’ll break down everything you need to know about 6.0 powerstroke cold air intakes so that you can make an informed decision about whether or not this upgrade is right for you.

The Pros of a 6.0 Powerstroke Cold Air Intake

There are several reasons why you might want to install a cold air intake on your 6.0 powerstroke, including:

Increased Horsepower and Torque

One of the biggest benefits of installing a cold air intake is the increased horsepower and torque that you’ll see from your engine. With a cold air intake in place, your engine will be able to breathe easier and make more power as a result. You can expect to see an increase of around 5-10 horsepower from your truck after installing a cold air intake.

Improved Gas Mileage

In addition to more power, you’ll also see improved gas mileage from your truck after installing a cold air intake. This is because the increased airflow that comes from the cold air intake will allow your engine to run more efficiently, meaning that you’ll use less fuel overall. You can expect to see an improvement of around 1-2 mpg from your truck after installing a cold air intake.

The Cons of a 6.0 Powerstroke Cold Air Intake

Along with the benefits, there are also some potential downsides to consider before installing a cold air intake on your truck, including:

Increased Engine Noise

One of the most common complaints about cold air intakes is that they can cause increased engine noise due to the high-flow filter that’s used with most intakes. If you’re looking for a quiet ride, then a cold air intake might not be the best choice for you.

Potential Check Engine Light

Another potential downside of installing a cold air intake is that it can sometimes trigger a check engine light on your truck’s dash due to the fact that it’s not emissions compliant. This isn’t always the case, but it’s something to keep in mind before making the decision to install an aftermarket intake on your truck.

Installing Your S&B Cold Air Intake 6.0 Powerstroke

S&B cold air intakes are one of the most popular modifications for Powerstroke owners looking to increase performance. A cold air intake will help your truck breathe easier, which means more power and improved fuel efficiency. In this section, we’ll walk you through the process of installing a S&B cold air intake on your 6.0 Powerstroke.

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable and set it aside in a safe place. You don’t want it accidentally touching any metal surfaces while you’re working.
  2. Using a socket wrench, remove the bolts that hold the factory air box in place. Carefully lift the factory air box out and set it aside.
  3. Take a look at the engine bay and familiarize yourself with where all the different components are located. This will make it easier when it comes time to install the new cold air intake.
  4. Start by installing the new air filter onto the lower half of the S&B cold air intake housing. Make sure that the filter is properly seated and that there’s no chance of it coming loose.
  5. Next, attach the upper half of the housing to the lower half using the provided hardware. Again, make sure everything is tight and secure so that there’s no chance of anything coming loose while you’re driving.
  6. With both halves of thehousing in place, you can now install the entire assembly into your engine bay. Start by feeding the inlet tube through the opening in your front bumper then attach it to the throttle body using the provided hose clamp.
  7. Once everything is tightened down, reconnect your battery and start your truck up to see how she runs! If everything sounds normal, you’re good to go!
  8. If you notice any strange noises or your Check Engine Light comes on, shut off your truck immediately and check all of your connections to make sure nothing has come loose during installation.

That’s it! You’ve successfully installed your new S&B cold air intake and are now enjoying increased performance from your Powerstroke!
